I am looking for an avg accel rate for compact cars, does anyone have a location for published numbers??

Steve,

if you look at SAE 2001-01-0044 by Fugger et al, there is data on a variety of vehicles accelerating at a signal controlled intersection.  If you are trying to model a particular collision, use the range rather than a single value.
